Stories Of My Dreams

Night turns into Day

Alabaster Dusk

The Sun in my face

Dawning Light storms into today

The red sun, beautiful malaise

Send the children in

Monsters will come play

A lonely boy walks along the way

A dark intent comes into play

His heart where all evil lay–

Seek the light of the dawning day

Say hello with a bow and praise

Another light you’ve seen,

the sun in your face

So, next time send the children in to play

So they live to see another day.

Movies into Books? What’s a girl to say?

I am extremely passionate about literary works and I believe that stories are a pleasure and priviledge you have to earn by reading the work not watching a Hollywood rendition. The blockbuster movies Hollywood has produced recently, in the past five years or so have been converted from books to movies. Screen plays are understandably created as writing to be presented in a visual form. Screen play. Books. Different. Nowadays, most authors dream of Hollywood optioning their books and turning them into movies. A dream that I don’t support. If you want to write a book, write a book, if you want to write a screen play, please do so. Now, I am not completely averse to the movie/book scenario. I would rather a movie screenplay be made into a book after the movie has been seen. Double standards? Maybe so.

Sidney Sheldon is one of my most favorite writers of all time. Did you know he used to be a TV writer? (Woah! I just discovered that one of my most favorite books of his If Tomorrow Comes was made a mini series in 1986! *–*Give me a moment to stew over this betrayal) Ok. so he wrote for The Patty Duke show (Loooove this show) and I dream of Genie (Loooove this show) as well as several other shows. Never getting over this.

.Regroup.

Movies have been made into books since the beginning of film, The Christmas Carol, Frankenstein, Nosferatu, you name it. They can be excused. You know why? It could be argued that the screen was still magical then, almost magical enough that people wanted to see their books made into moving pictures. I mean, imagine! Moving Pictures! They are moving. Now, people have no excuse. The movie technology has not been completely mastered but we all know Hollywood can pretty make whatever’s on paper real enough. So, why can’t hollywood write their own stuff and fiction writers and such stick to their own stuff. Very illogical but I can’t help myself. I don’t want to see my precious books made into movies.

Imagination means that you can fly as high as the moon and fall in love with an Angel. Movies have imagination also but the aspect of turning a lovable book into screen play is tenuous. Writing for both scenarios are different processes. There are many things that books do that movies can never recreate. At least not now. Maybe never.

List of Modern books that have made it onto TV and Films

(But a tiny drop in the bucket!)

  1. Twilight Saga (used to be series before Hollywood) by Stephanie Meyer
  2. The Host by Stephanie Meyer (It’s still only on book 1)
  3. Hunger Games Series by Suzanne Collins
  4. Divergent (gahhhhhh) by Veronica Roth
  5. Vampire Academy by Richelle Mead
  6. Matched Series by Allie Condie
  7. Beautiful Creatures Series by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl
  8. Thirteen Reasons Why by Jay Asher
  9. Ramona and Beezus Series by Beverly Cleary
  10. Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling
  11. The Great Gatsby by Scott Fitzgerald
  12. The Help by Kathryn Stockett
  13. The Time traveller’s Wife by Audrey Niffenegger
  14. Water for Elephants by Sara Gruen
  15. Something Borrowed by Emily Giffin
  16. Pride & Prejudice by Jane Austen
  17. City of Bones by Cassandra Clare

Harry Potter Series by J.K Rowling

One of the reasons for the success of Harry Potter is because it made a movie for all seven (Hollywood made it eight) books. That’s amazing for people because they got to see all the details that were in the book. Hollywood made it eight movies for seven books for the money as well as the magnification of the final battle of Harry and Voldemort. It worked well for everyone, I never even saw part 6, 7 & 8 of the movie, but I can say that it worked because of the reaction of people around me. How can you ever capture the entire storyline in a book that is not yet finished? The Host 2 (The Seeker) is not even out yet but Book 1 (The Host) is already out in movie form. Beautiful Cratures by Kami Garcia & Margaret Stohl has a four part book. It’s like they (Hollywood) are trying to grab all the money in the world. It seems like making books into movies is a trend that has gained popularity but like many other trends, it will end and begin once again. This practice has been going on since about 1910. Vintage trends always circle back. Case in point, the sport jacket for women (lol).

Then

It has become all about the money. Annoys me to no end! I haven’t seen part 3, 4 (& 5?) of the Twilight Saga nor have I seen any of the Hunger Games. I will not be seeing Divergent, Vampire Academy, you name it. Never saw Cloud Atlas.

(Does anyone know if Winter’s Tale has a book? Will love to read that!) (Update, it has a book. The Book is brilliant!)

Definitely

These are my random and stagnant but barely changing views on turning movies into to books. Hollywood rocks & Sucks! I will never ever see any of my favorite books in their movie forms.I have a lot more to say, this isn’t finished yet but I have to go. But I swear if, Hollywood makes one more of my favorite books into a movie, s**t is gonna hit the fan!

Life

Sheila stood in the living room and looked around her three bedroom house in satisfaction. Her life was coming along nicely. She felt grateful and sighed in happiness. She then decided to take a nap in their room before Jean got back from work, so she could be well rested when they ate dinner together. He had been working late often nowadays and this was going to be the first time they had had dinner together in weeks. She had prepared the food specially, Pot au feu as the main dish and crème brûlée as a dessert. She walked to their bedroom and just dropped on the bed. She was tired from going to work and then cooking all afternoon. She immediately fell asleep.

She awoke suddenly. She heard the garage door opening. Her husband was home! Even after four years of marriage, it still surprised her whenever she was excited at her husband’s return from work. She picked out a sexy number, threw off her blouse and shorts, and dropped them into the hamper and just as she was moving her head, her eyes caught a red stain on the collar of a shirt. She quickly realized it was her husband’s and was alarmed.
“Did he have an injury?”

She touched the stain. It was lipstick. Her heart thudded erratically as she comprehended and denied the ramifications of her discovery. Could her husband be cheating on her?
“No!” She said sharply.

“He couldn’t be!

“Mon ange, I’m home” She heard Jean call. She rubbed her temples. She used to love when he called her that, and now with just one lipstick stain, she hated it. Could he really be cheating on her? What if he called “her” that? She could hear Jean climbing up the stairs. She just had to know if he was really cheating on her. She couldn’t bear it if he was cheating on her. She searched her mind, scrolling through the pictures of the females in his office. Could it be Angela? Or was it Tina? No. Tina was married. She could hear him coming up the stairs. She quickly dropped the shirt back in the hamper and pasted a smile on her face. “Darling, I missed you!” she said, and it was true, at least before she had seen the lipstick, she searched his face for any hint of his betrayal and could find none. She heard him in the distance saying he was tired but could smell his favorite dishes and so was going to stay up.

“Yes, I cooked your favorite dishes; Pot au feu and crème brûlée” Her mind was racing widely, should she show him the shirt? Or should she just ask? She felt him kiss her and responded, he was still her husband after all and she still loved him, cheating slytherin or not. She smiled absentmindedly as she recalled the expression from Harry Potter. Slytherin was the house of Voldemort. Her mom had taught her to replace bad words with slightly better ones.

“Mon Chaton, I’ll go take a shower, I can’t wait to eat you food” he said.
“You’re gonna love it” you cheating slytherin

He kissed her cheeks then started undressing. “Honey, I’m gonna go serve the dishes, hurry up”. She waited for him to go into the bathroom and then took the shirt. She hurried downstairs and started to serve the dishes and covered them with the platter cover. She heard him coming down the stairs after a few minutes and went to meet him at the bottom of the stairs. “Oooh, I did not see that delicious number you’re wearing when I came upstairs”
She smiled up at him and said sweetly “Really, what could you have been thinking of?” Angela, maybe?

She pushed him along to the table and pulled out his chair, “Ahh, ma belle knows how to welcome her man, non? She put her arm on his chair and used the other to remove the platter cover. She saw him open his mouth in surprise.

“What is this” he asked?

“Your shirt.

Do-do you see what I see? Do-do you see the lipstick?” She put her hands over her mouth “and before you say anything, think care- Don’t touch me! – Did you touch her?” She was going to have to break the news to mama and papa, they thought she had finally settled and was happily married, they were going to be heartbroken. They adored Jean.

“Ma Cherie, it is not what you think.” Jean said
“What I think? What else could it be?” She sniffed. Tears had started to fall from her eyes.
“Mom Amor, it was Shelly from work. She tried to kiss me and I pushed her away. She no longer works for me. I didn’t tell you because I knew you’d worry, I was going to tell you when her termination was final; tomorrow. You’re the one that I love” He pulled her closer while she sobbed gently “I would never cheat on you, I know how you feel about cheating” He pushed her away gently “I thought you trusted me, I thought you were over your trust issues”
“I’m sorry, I just saw the shirt and freaked out and I couldn’t even think and you were already home, I didn’t know what to do. Forgive me?” She sniffed
“You know I’ll forgive you for anything, but we still have to talk about this tomorrow, dry your tears, huh, mon petit cherie, I’ll serve the real food. You did cook it right?” He laughed.
“Yes, you horrible man” she replied. Tomorrow.

***

“Baby?” Sheila stretched, straightened her back and pushing aside the pillow she had been holding against her tummy. She sat up and felt around the bed for her husband. Sometime during the night she must have rolled over to Jean’s side of the bed because she found herself completely at the right side of the bed. She smiled. She must have been missing her husband when he got up and had cuddled with the pillow. Whenever Jean was out of town, she just slept on his side so she could smell his pillow and pretend he was home.

“Baby, where are you?” She got up and placed each foot gingerly in front of each other hoping to surprise Jean, even though she knew he’d have heard her voice.
“Heeeeek! How the heck did you sneak up on me?” She laughed when he scooped her up from behind. “Put me down, you big oaf!” They both knew she was pleased that he had carried her off. Ever since the ‘incident’ ,as she had termed it in her head, occurred, he had been so amorous. She thought he was doing it because he wanted to assure her of his trust and love. He had even stopped staying late at the office. She was glad to have her husband back, but not quite as glad about the ‘incident’ being the catalyst for their coming together. She hadn’t mentioned the ‘incident’ since then because she hadn’t wanted to spoil their new found contentment. She knew she was going to have to bring it up soon, but she still wanted a few more days of bliss; of days when he came home at 6pm and they talked in the kitchen while she prepared dinner. He often regaled her with tales of his office drama. She now knew that Ashley, the office copy girl was dating Mike the mailman and that Betsy from the HR department was getting a divorce. Her smile dimmed a little. She didn’t want to find out that her husband was cheating on her. She’ll just give them two more days of bliss before she burst their bubble of happiness.
“…made you breakfast. Eggs and toast with nutella, just like you like it in the mornings”
“Thank you, honey”

***

It was time. Whether she wanted to or not, she had to ask him about the ‘incident’. They had been tiptoeing around it for close to a week now. She wanted to know. She wanted to know all about Shelley. Had she really been fired? Or was her husband feeding her a load of bull.

So, I was too chicken to know what happened next. Sorry. It’s just how life is.

Joke of the day

I went to the hobby lobby around Pearland, TX today and they were having a sale.  Simplicity sewing patterns (I love to sew!) were on sale for 99c! (10 per customer). I almost fainted. It usually costs about $20, so of course I taught it was a joke. I went up to the first attendant and asked politely. She responded that thy were indeed on a sale. I didn’t believe her. Anyway, I grabbed a few and incidentally saw price tags of about $17. The fine print of the sale flyer also said, offers not valid of pre-reduced item. Since most of all the ones I wanted had price tags on them. I hissed quietly. No wonder! The good ones were all pre-reduced! Some sale! Never one to look a gift horse in the mouth, I forged on. Incidentally, I picked up one of the ones I really wanted that had had a price tag on it previously.

This time it didn’t have one.

Keep in mind that each pattern had several copies. Suddenly, my world flipped on its axis, total paradigm shift, I tell you. My mind whirled with possibilities.

Did that mean that that one with the price tag spoke for all of them or did that mean that I had stumbled upon the one pre-reduced item?

Meanwhile, another part of me was like, come on, you know the likeliest possibility is that the one with the price tag spoke for all the others. So, I call up another attendant. This time it was some kind of supervisor.

I asked her, “are they all 99c?”.

She said yes.

I said to her, “but look, this one has a price tag”, to which she replied, “they are all 99c cents”. Inside I was thinking, “is this woman high? It obviously says $17 dollars on the price tag”. I was also thinking to myself, “Is this a joke? No store can be that…nice! never! I can understand it being a certain percent off, but to change the prices for all of them? Impossible!” Hesitantly, I pull out the ten I wanted.

I once again stopped an attendant and asked her the question swirling in my head. She replied, “yes they are all 99c. We do this occasionally”. To which I asked, “how occasionally?” She replied, “Once a month”. I’m pretty sure my mind went blank for a moment. My inside danced with joy and I thanked God (s.w.t/ Glorified and Exalted be He!) There it was, my joke of the day.  I could hardly  believe it. I don’t know if it is going on at all Hobby Lobby’s but it will run in mine for a week!

#Killing Time

“But at my back I always hear/ Time’s winged chariot hurrying near;/ And yonder all before us lie/ Deserts of vast eternity.” – Andrew Marvell [To his Coy Mistress]

Time is a very awesome and scary phenomenon. In the morning when you’re late for work or in a hurry time seems to speed even faster. Tasks that feel like a two minute tasks becomes in actuality five minutes. Time becomes infinitely more precious. Its acquisition becomes paramount and it’s guarded like gold. Things are done faster with heads going over the shoulders looking to see time’s winged chariot hurrying near. In the times when there is no need to acquire times or hurry, people laze about uncaring if time is hurrying near. Time is a precious commodity. In this world, we only have a few years as the Lord (subhana wa’atala) wills.  {My friend just said to someone on the phone “The world could come to an end anytime soon, we never know when} {I looked at her askance and said to her “You talking to me or naw?} {No she wasn’t talking to me. Coinkidink}.

Anyway, on that vein, Time is very short for everyone. We can cheat time by altering our bodies and keeping our minds young but death will eventually knock on the door. Finding good, spiritual and awesome things to do while time is still present for us is very important. Personally, I try to live life for the hereafter as well as the  now. It’s a balance that I thread carefully. Killing time is a worthy endeavour and a lot of thought should go into how you do it.  One of the things you should never feel when you look back at your life is regret.

On that note, one again, spend your allotted time wisely and in care of the afterlife.

Ironing

Ironing
Ironing

Has anyone ever ironed an unruly piece of clothing? It really is a wonderful process. It’s a rebirth of the fabric being massaged by the hot underbelly of the iron. It changes everything. When you first spread your cloth on the ironing board,  it’s rough, unruly and unwilling to cooperate. It looks bereft and devoid of life.  Nothing I want to wear or have reflected upon my person. So, I iron it out.
The first swipe of the iron is really important.  That start connects with the cloth for the very first time and soothes it into complacency.  It expresses to the cloth that it’s there to help it be better.  There, there it seems to say. Then the first swipe. Magic. Life. Health. That rough patch of desolation becomes a smooth paradise. The rainbows and unicorns pop out of the woodwork and a dance begins. The second swipe reveals grassland.  A beautiful smooth valley. As iron forges on, more beautiful scenery comes alive. Finally, the ironing is done. The cloth has been transformed.  New life has been breathed into it.  Think  about its journey for a moment.

New life is a beginning. An opportunity to make something of yourself. You brave new paths and become something new. Something better. It’s just a very revealing process. Ironing.

Here, there and everywhere…

My 20th is coming up in May and I’m so excited. I was going to have a party but since I’ve eschewed music I figured why not go for the active fun route. I live in a land with no mountains and valleys (At least not one I can drive to and frankly if there is one, its not near my home) but I love the idea of nature. The long hikes with backpacks hitched on my shoulder, a walking stick securing my way…aaahhh. That’s the stuff for me. But it’s my birthday, I wanna also have fun with my friends and family who might not find hiking as fun as I do, so I thought…..wait for it….DisneyLand/World!!!!!!!!! I have never been there before and almost everyone from my family has been. So, Yes, I am planning to go to Disney World/Land for my birthday if the Lord (s.w.t) pleases. I hope so. It’d be a good way to have the most fun for everyone. All the themes, fun and fun…all around me. So, I hope to go there.

Isn’t it beautiful? Sigh.

Although, I have heard of the long lines, and swealtering bodies. Not looking foward to that but…It’s Disney World/Land!!! Who cares? I don’t. Hopefully I can procure one of those ‘jump the line’ passes. Yay Birthday girl; Me<—-

The Immortal Crown – An Age of X Novel – Richelle Mead

WOW! I have followed Richelle Mead since her Dark Swan series and I must say, she has never disappointed me. When I requested this story, I was immediately drawn in by her name and the synopsis. Although, I saw that it was the second book of the series, I still requested it from Net Galley. Fortunately, I was approved. I was so excited and I wasn’t disappointed.

One of the drawbacks of reading from book two is that sometimes the author doesn’t situate you properly in the series. Sometimes, you can’t feel the excitement or the sorrow. Well, I felt everything in the book. E-v-e-r-y-t-h-i-n-g. There was one part at the very end but that’s my bad and it added to the suspense and I did feel those emotions. Kudos to Mead, she established everything and reintroduces everything.

I am definitely going to be signed up for Book # 3.

On to the actual story. I don’t know quite how to summarize the awesomeness that is this story, so I’ll let the author do it herself.

Gameboard of the Gods (Book #1) introduced religious investigator Justin March and Mae Koskinen, the beautiful supersoldier assigned to protect him. Together they have been charged with investigating reports of the supernatural and the return of the gods, both inside the Republic of United North America and out. With this highly classified knowledge comes a shocking revelation: Not only are the gods vying for human control, but the elect—special humans marked by the divine—are turning against one another in bloody fashion.

Their mission takes a new twist when they are assigned to a diplomatic delegation headed by Lucian Darling, Justin’s old friend and rival, going into Arcadia, the RUNA’s dangerous neighboring country. Here, in a society where women are commodities and religion is intertwined with government, Justin discovers powerful forces at work, even as he struggles to come to terms with his own reluctantly acquired deity.

Meanwhile, Mae—grudgingly posing as Justin’s concubine—has a secret mission of her own: finding the illegitimate niece her family smuggled away years ago. But with Justin and Mae resisting the resurgence of the gods in Arcadia, a reporter’s connection with someone close to Justin back home threatens to expose their mission—and with it the divine forces the government is determined to keep secret.

So there! She did it better than I could ever had.

Now that that is over, let e wax about Mae Koskinen. OMG! Mae is so aweeesssooommee! Girl is on fire, always! I ador eher. She is my new favorite heroine! She is brave, daring and cherisher her familia. Being a supersolder (valkayrie) is not easy. She never sleeps and is always ready for danger. She is just amazing. The things she does just outstands me.

Justin of course is “aiiight”. He cool. He’s always got Mae’s back and that enamored me to him. He is intelligent and smart. Both of them together are unbeatable and I’d like to see more of them both.

Book three is going to bring more than I could ever imagine. The stuff that happens near the end is just terrifying. I can’t imagine what the outcome of what any of it could be. It’s just… dangerous. I fear for my girl but like i said together Justin & Mae are unbeatable. Together.

Definitely a 5 star! Whot!
